11 SEO-friendly ways to promote your erotic books

I am gradually learning how important SEO (search engine optimisation) is to better promote my erotic e-book and literature. I want to attract more readers organically: Facebook, Instagram, X and other forms of social media are not that friendly to new independent authors, and especially those writing erotic literature.

Having a strong online prescence is key, and below are the best practice suggestions which I plan to follow on this blog and hopefully can provide some useful support and encouragement for you too.

  1. Create an SEO-optimised blog: a blog is a must for selling erotic novels. Optimise it for keywords like “erotic ebooks”, “gay lit” and “steamy reads.” WordPress offers perhaps the most feasible routes to impactful SEO but there will be others too.
  2. Use the right keywords on Amazon KDP: optimise book metadata and keywords in Amazon KDP. This helps readers find your titillating titles in search and browsing.
  3. Leverage Goodreads: Goodreads isn’t perfect and is hard to gain traction, but it will help your SEO. List books on your Goodreads author profile. Reviews and SEO here can increase search traffic.
  4. Write SEO-friendly content: Write SEO-optimised content highlighting your erotic catalogue. Adding keywords to book pages and blog posts boosts search visibility.
  5. Shamelessly plug and promote your social media: Social media can be a ruthless place. Shamelessly find your fellow authors who are more successful than you, try and talk to them and even follow their followers. Some might follow you back.
  6. Interlink your content: Linking between your blog posts, book pages, author website and profiles creates an SEO-friendly structure. This helps search engines index, value and connect your erotica content.
  7. Find other sites and post there: Reaching out to popular sites, blogs and communities focused on erotic fiction and offering to contribute a custom guest post exposes you to more potential fans. Just make sure your guest posts are high-quality and relevant. Link back to your site and ebook pages.
  8. Find potential fans: There are loads of forums out there that love erotic lit. Post chapters, ideas, feedback, reviews. When you do so, link back to your pages.
  9. Embed your e-book and other products in widgets. Embed a widget to let visitors preview erotic ebook samples right from your site. Like I did earlier with my book: A Chance Visit.
  10. Link your blogs and pages to Google Search Console: Connect your site to Google Search Console to see keyword and traffic data. This helps tailor blog content and improve SEO.
  11. Blog regularly: Post some erotic short stories or ideas, share your thoughts, and keep up a body of work. Use keywords naturally in titles and content. Publishing on your blog boosts SEO and brings readers.

I think that routinely creating valuable blog content while spreading it across social platforms, plus leveraging Amazon keywords and metadata is my best chance to try and break through as an erotic author.

Wish me well, and best wishes to you as you try and do the same.
